Arts Alive!

Come on down to Conti Street Friday, November 7, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. for the Arts Alive Street Festival. Among the activities planned for Arts Alive! on Conti Street are:

Catt Sirten will present a live broadcast of WHIL's popular Radio Avalon on the corner of Conti Street in Cathedral Square.  There will be a host of musical entertainment including strolling musicians, performances by jazz saxophonists Joseph Mitchell, folk rock musician Paul Bramer, and concerts by area school performance groups including Bakers Dozen.  Poetry readings in the courtyard adjacent to the Alabama Contemporary Dance Company.  Open rehearsal for Alabama Contemporary Dance Company's November 8 performance No Loitering accompanied by the Blues Band assembled for the performance.  Shakespeare on the Street performed by Comedia del Art.  Art exhibits in several area businesses including Dauphine Shoeteria, Quatorze and Loretta's.  New installation of Art Off Centre, windows of the Saenger Theatre.  Fresh-air market featuring downtown businesses, vendors from the Government Street Market and local artists.

One of the most significant events of the evening will be the opening of the
new Centre for the Living Arts at 6:00 p.m. in their new home, the former Press Register Building. The Centre will open with an artist's reception and new exhibition of contemporary art featuring artists Casey Downing, Tony Wright and Jo Patton. The reception is free and open to the public.

Arts Alive! on Conti Street is a free event and the pubic is invited to attend. The event is being sponsored by Main Street Mobile, WHIL, Lagniappe, BellSouth and the Mobile Arts Council.
