The Alabama Department of Transportation announces that a portion of U.S. Highway 98 (Moffett Road) will be closed from 6 p.m. Thursday, September 3rd through 6 a.m. Friday, September 4th.

The closure is necessary for Illinois Central Railroad to conduct emergency railroad crossing repairs between the I-65 East Service Road and Western Drive. The closure is expected to end by 6 a.m. Friday, but any delay or complications could cause the closure to extend longer than expected.

Businesses located on U.S. 98 (Moffett Road) between I-65 and Springhill Avenue will have access. Through traffic will be detoured to Springhill Avenue.

Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience while these repairs are being done to improve Alabama's roadways.
