ALDOT Announces I-65 Repairs to Begin, in Mobile

Jul 27th, 2011

The Alabama Department of Transportation announced that a $22,437,937 project has been awarded for work to include planing, resurfacing and traffic striping on I-65 from I-10 in Mobile to north of State Route 17 (U. S. 45).

The low bid contract was awarded to Mobile Asphalt Company, LLC of Theodore with a requirement that work begins no later than mid August 2011. The contract also requires all work on the interstate requiring lane closures to be done between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. ALDOT officials expect all night-time lane closures to end in time for increased traffic volumes associated with weekday morning commutes.

The repairs will address the asphalt fatigue cracking and safety issues along the 8.710 mile stretch of I-65.

The projected completion date for this project is November 2012.

Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this construction operation to improve Alabama’s roadways.
