Alabama Supreme Court Upholds City of Mobile Annexation

Mar 6th, 2009

The Alabama Supreme Court has upheld a decision by the Mobile Circuit Court that the citizens in Mobile’s September 18, 2007 annexation election had the right to join the city separate from other areas.

Circuit Court Judge Rick Stout ruled in favor of the city, supporting its argument that the residential area south of Old Shell Road was separate from neighborhoods north of Old Shell, including Mobile Terrace.

“I am delighted that the Alabama Supreme Court has upheld the rights of the citizens in Mobile Terrace and the Schillinger Road area who freely voted to become a part of the City of Mobile,” said Mayor Sam Jones.
