ALABAMA MUSIC HALL OF FAME COMES TO MOBILE

The Alabama Music Hall of Fame will hold its Tenth Induction Banquet and Awards Show in Mobile, January 25, 2003 at the Mobile Convention. David Johnson, Executive Director of the Alabama Music Hall of Fame said “We are very pleased and excited to return to Mobile for our Tenth Induction Banquet and Awards Show.”

The award winning event will be an outstanding evening of recognition for this state’s unequaled music heritage and notable music achievers. According to Johnson, “ People who attend will have the opportunity to rub elbows with some of the most successful and talented Alabamians in the music industry and will see first hand that stars do fall on Alabama.”

Johnson thanks Mobile Mayor Mike Dow for his steadfast commitment in having this event in Mobile once again, stating that Dow recognized the historical importance as well as the monetary value for the City to host this stellar event.

On tap to take home awards at the event include: the Governor’s Achievement Awards” to Mobile native and hit recording artist, Allison Morrer. Her first hit recording which she also co-wrote, “A Soft Place To Fall” appeared in Robert Redford’s oscar-nominated film, The Horse Whisperer.

Four music icons who will receive Induction into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame for their lifework in the music field are:
Clarence Carter from Montgomery, Alabama who had hits for four decades including Patches, Slip Away and Too Weak To Fight.

Eddie Floyd also from Montgomery who began his career in 1955 in a Detroit Michegan group call the Falcons. They had five chart records before Floyd went out on his own and recorded 12 hit songs in the top 100 including his signature song “Knock On Wood.”

EmmyLou Harris was born in Birmingham and for more than 20 years she has gained success with her exquisite vocal style in the music genres of pop, folk, country and alternative. She has released 25 albums, eight that reached gold status. Harris has won many awards including four Grammys for Best Country Vocal Performance.

Mack Vickery from Town Creek is one of the few elite songwriters who has penned songs for five decades. He’s written songs for such artists as Hank Williams, Jr., Waylon Jennings, Lefty Frizzell, Faron Young, Tanya Tucker and George Strait to name a few.
