A New Home for Hammerin’ Hank’s House

Jul 22nd, 2008

The Mobile City Council unanimously approved a resolution designating the home that Baseball legend and our city’s favorite son Hank Aaron grew up in as a public museum. The house, now on Edwards Street in Toulminville, will be transported to Hank Aaron Stadium, and will be filled with memorabilia from Hank Aaron, his family, and other baseball greats.

"Hank is an outstanding sports hero and great ambassador for the City of Mobile," said Mayor Sam Jones. "He's a great example for young people, proving that with hard work great things can happen. This is something we think will enhance tourism in Mobile. In my opinion, this is the home of the greatest baseball player there has ever been."

Mr. Aaron, his brother and sister, the Mobile BayBears leadership team and representatives from the Baseball Hall of Fame took part in the announcement. The move is expected to be completed before the next season starts sometime in the Spring of 2009.
