Good evening,

It is 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16 and I am writing to give you an update on the City of Mobile's efforts regarding COVID-19.

As of tonight, there have been 2,781 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mobile County, out of 37,354 total tests, according to the Mobile County Health Department.

There were 25 new cases of active COVID-19 as of this morning, following 26 from Monday. There are 130 deaths attributed to the virus in Mobile County, an increase of one since Monday.

The total number of people who have been hospitalized due to COVID-19 is holding steady at 264 patients.

Looking around the state, the Alabama Department of Public Health reports 26,524 cases in the state with 779 deaths as tonight. The state's death toll from COVID-19 rose by 10 overnight. Hospitalizations are up to 640 from 576 the previous day.

Alabama has administered 305,036 coronavirus tests, with 89,245 in last 14 days. ADPH reports 13,508 presumed recoveries from the virus.

Please remember that COVID-19 is still active in our community and we all must continue the recommended safety guidelines:

  • Keep a safe distance of at least 6 feet from others
  • Wash your hands regularly
  • Wear a mask when shopping or when in public places

The state's amended Safer at Home order remains in place through July 3. This order applies to any gathering of people in group settings. In those cases, please keep a safe distance and use a face covering.

Sincerely,

Sandy Stimpson
