A Message from Mayor Stimpson - June 15
Jun 15th, 2020
Good evening,
It is 9 p.m. on Monday, June 15 and I am writing to give you an update on the City of Mobile's efforts regarding COVID-19.
As of tonight, there have been 2,743 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mobile County, out of 37,354 total tests. Please note that the total test figure is now updated weekly by the Mobile County Health Department.
There were 26 new patients with active COVID-19 as of this morning. That follows 33 from the June 12th report. These numbers are significantly higher than the average over the past few weeks.
There are 129 deaths attributed to the virus, with no increase since Friday's report.
There are currently 90 individuals hospitalized due to COVID-19, according to the Mobile County Health Department. The total number of people who have been hospitalized due to COVID-19 remains steady at 263, which is less than 10 percent of total infections.
Statewide, the Alabama Department of Public Health reported 2,559 new cases of the virus this afternoon, bringing the state total to 25,892.
Alabama's current death total is 769. That is an increase of 5 deaths since Friday's report.
Between Monday, June 8 and Sunday, June 14, Alabama saw the second highest rate of new coronavirus cases per capita in the nation. The state added 5,972 cases during that week, or 12.2 new cases per 10,000 people, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Census Bureau.
Alabama's new cases per capita over that stretch trailed only Arizona, which saw 13.9 new cases per 10,000 people.
Please remember that COVID-19 is still active in our community and we all must continue the recommended safety guidelines:
- Keep a safe distance of at least 6 feet from others
- Wash your hands regularly
- Wear a mask when shopping or when in public places
The state's amended Safer at Home order remains in place through July 3. This order applies to any gathering of people in group settings. In those cases, please keep a safe distance and use a face covering.
Sincerely,
Sandy Stimpson
