7 Things to Bring to the MoonPie Over Mobile New Year’s Eve Celebration
Dec 17th, 2009
1. Warm Clothing: If last year’s celebration is any indication, layers will be the theme of the evening. Keep in mind that the MoonPie viewing area is right next to the river, and the wind can pick up. Sorry, MoonPie Over Mobile Snuggies are not available at this time. The dress for the MoonPie Ball at the Mobile Convention Center is semi-formal.2. Camera/Camcorder: Be one of the few in America who can tag a 600-lb MoonPie in your Facebook photos and YouTube videos. Tweet your pictures and videos to @cityofmobile or @themoonpie and we’ll post them on our website.
3. Comfortable Shoes: You’ll be doing plenty of walking as you dine in a downtown restaurant, make your way to the Exploreum, the Carnival Museum and the Museum of Mobile, then over to Cooper Riverside Park or the Mobile Convention Center.
4. Your Appetite: We’ll have thousands of MoonPies to hand out; vendors will also be on hand selling hot dogs, hot chocolate, coffee, and other treats. If you’re heading to the MoonPie Ball, a scrumptious midnight breakfast buffet will be served.
5. A Buddy: If the crowd is anything like last year, you’ll be joined by about 15,000 of your closest friends. Be sure to come with a friend or a parent to make the MoonPie Over Mobile experience a great one.
6. Your Singing Voice: Don’t know what the words to Auld Lang Syne mean? Who cares? Sing and dance the New Year in with national recording artists Jimmy Hall & Wet Willie. Inside the Ball, the Grand Revue Band will keep you on your feet.
7. Poetry: The MoonPie Over Mobile brought out the William Wordsworth in several City Councilmembers and citizens alike. Why not write a poem yourself and share it with the crowd?
