53K Campaign Kickoff - Dangers of Secondhand Smoke!

Mar 11th, 2005

Fifty-three thousand (53K) people will die each year from exposure to the chemicals contained in secondhand smoke. That is one person every 72 seconds. Tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States, killing more than 453,000 people every year. That's more deaths than alcohol, illegal drugs, homicide, car accidents and AIDS combined. Secondhand tobacco smoke is by far the most dangerous air pollutant most Americans ever encounter. Join the Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Mobile and Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) as they take a stand by informing the community about the dangers of secondhand smoke exposure.

DATE: Tuesday, March 15, 2005

TIME: Immediately following the City Council Meeting

LOCATION: The Atrium of Government Plaza

The mission of the Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Mobile and Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) is to prevent youth from using tobacco.
