2010 Census Employees to be Canvassing Local Neighborhoods

May 4th, 2009

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, Office of Security, temporary Census workers will canvass neighborhoods across the country between April and July 2009 in preparation for the 2010 Census. During this operation, approximately 140,000 employees will canvass neighborhoods in an effort to update the Census Bureau’s address list and maps using hand-held computers.

Each temporary Census employee will bear an official identification card with the employee’s signature and an expiration date. The cards of temporary employees do not include a photograph. However, the identification cards of regional-level employee as well as field office managers will contain the bearer’s photograph and expiration date.

Census questionnaires will be mailed to all U.S. residents beginning March 2010.

To verify and employee’s identity, contact the U.S. Census Bureau, Regional Census Center at 877-591-3755.
