$1 Million Contract presented for drainage repairs in City of Mobile
Mar 21st, 2016
"When I first stepped into office, the City Mobile was the poster child for mismanagement of stormwater runoff which is a major problem for the rainiest city in America. Our new goal is to become the poster child of excellent stormwater management. We need to address erosion and drainage issues throughout the City of Mobile to ensure effective stormwater management." – Mayor StimpsonMayoral Action:
After a collaborative process with both the City Council and Mobile County, Mayor Stimpson has submitted a $1 million drainage repair contract to the City Council for their consideration and approval. The Administration asks the City Council to review and consider this contract during next Tuesday's council meeting so work can begin as soon as possible.
Projects:
- Engineering design and construction of ditch repairs at apartment complex on Montlimar Canal.
- Fortifying and stabilizing the concrete and natural ditch structure on Maudelayne Drive.
- Montlimar Creek ditch stabilization, pipe replacement and sheet pile repairs.
- Coronado Ct. ditch repairs including engineering and construction to address channel structure.
- Channel and tributary repair to stabilize ditch on Woodland Rd.
Procurement Process:
- Contract was awarded to the most qualified, lowest bidder: James H. Adams & Son Construction.
- This was the most comprehensive, inclusive procurement process to date.
- During the course of the bid solicitation, the Stimpson Administration informed as many qualified businesses as possible via email, phone calls and speaking engagements.
Supplier Diversity:
- Last year, Mayor Stimpson created the City's very first Supplier Diversity Program to help minority, women and disadvantaged business enterprises overcome challenges that make it more difficult to win contracts and work on City projects.
- The Supplier Diversity Office has created a subcontracting plan that will target minority and women owned businesses to assist the contractor.
- The City now has an online vendor registration and vendor information portal that will allow the vendors to receive bid solicitations, update information, view payments and other performances.
