Mobile Fire-Rescue Department units were dispatched for a report of a watercraft in distress near the Dog River bridge on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, Alabama, Thursday afternoon, September 26, 2024.
A Coast Guard helicopter spotted an overturned kayak in the Bay and MFRD water rescue boats made their way to the location to search for victims.
In the meantime, at Incident Command in Helen Wood Park, three kayakers explained that after one of them capsized, they were able to self-rescue and make their way back to the shore safely with two kayaks.
District 2 Chief, Engine 20, Marine 20, Rescue 24, District 1, Engine 16, Engine 8, and Water Rescue 8 responded to the incident.
With all parties accounted for, MFRD returned the kayak to shore and returned to service. There were no reports of injuries.
