Vehicle Fire Causes Damage to House

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org VEHICLE FIRE CAUSES DAMAGE TO HOUSE A fire that appears to have started in a 2007 Saturn Relay (van) caused heavy damage to a house located at 6223 General Lee Avenue early Friday morning, April 25. The fire was reported as a vehicle on fire under the carport at approximately 2:30 a.m. and firefighters arrived at approximately 2:36 a.m. reporting a vehicle on fire and heavy smoke and fire showing from the structure as well. Upon further investigation it was discovered the fire had spread to the attic and had broken through the roof. Fire Investigators examined the scene and determined the fire started under the hood of the vehicle near the battery and was possibly caused by some faulty wiring or a short in the electrical system. Damage is estimated at approximately $165 Thousand. No injuries were reported. Engines 6, 7, 19, truck 24, rescue 7 and District Chief Elbert Cross responded to the call. ###
