Vacant House Heavily Damaged by Fire

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org VACANT HOUSE HEAVILY DAMAGED BY FIRE Mobile Firefighters responded to a fire in a vacant, single-story, wood frame structure located at 904 Cherry Street Friday morning, July 31. The fire was reported at approximately 4:34 a.m. and firefighters arrived at approximately 4:41 a.m. reporting heavy fire and smoke coming from the structure. The fire appears to have started at the rear of the structure, burning through the roof and floor. There was also heavy fire damage throughout the structure. There were no utilities hooked up to the structure and the front was boarded up. Fire Investigators noted evidence of heavy vagrant activity inside which could have been a contributing factor to the cause of the fire, although the cause remains under investigation at this time. Damage is estimated at $15 thousand. No injuries were reported. Engines 3, 14, 21, truck 4, rescue 14 and District Chief John Young responded to the fire. ###
