Two Alarm Fire at Auto Paint and Body Shop

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org TWO ALARM FIRE AT AUTO PAINT AND BODY SHOP Mobile fire investigators will begin their investigation today, Tuesday, January 25, into the cause of a 2 alarm fire at Marshall Auto Painting and Collision located at 2869 Government Boulevard on Monday night, January 24. Mobile fire dispatchers received two calls from passersby reporting the fire at approximately 10:54 p.m. Firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the business at approximately 11:03 p.m. when they arrived. Officials on the scene called for a 2nd alarm response to bring additional manpower, because of the amount of fire and the size of the structure. Ten units and approximately 40 firefighters responded to the scene. The building contained several vehicles, as well as, paint and paint thinners which added to fuel the fire. No injuries were reported. A damage estimate has not bee established as yet but could be well over $1 million. Engines 8, 9, 12, 16, 23; trucks 4, 17, 24; rescues 23, 24 and District Chiefs John Young and Elbert Cross responded. ###
