Technical Rescue 8

Mobile Fire-Rescue Department has a new apparatus for Technical Rescue 8, placed into service in late March 2024. Technical rescue vehicles feature equipment suited for events such as motor vehicle collisions with victims trapped inside, high-angle or rope rescues, confined space rescues, trench rescues, water rescues, industrial equipment entrapment or structural collapse rescues.

The vehicle features an MCB Responder Series 12' All Aluminum Walk-around Rescue, which was made by Ward Apparatus and mounted on a 2022 Ford F550 4x4 crew cab chassis and is painted to match other vehicles in the department’s fleet.

On each side, it has three-roll up doors to access inside compartments. In one of the compartments accessible from both sides, it features a dual-direction slide out tray with a 1,000-pound capacity allowing quick and easy access for extrication equipment and other tools. The apparatus also features a design that allows shelves to be adjusted to fit department needs. Two rear doors allow access to a longer storage area for items such as a Stokes basket and tripods.

The apparatus comes equipped with standard safety equipment of lights and sirens to warn drivers of emergency responses. It is also equipped with two telescoping LED lights that generate 15,000 lumens of light and can be used as flood lights or in a spotlight mode. The front bumper features a heavy-duty winch.

The apparatus was purchased for $260,488 to replace the old Technical Rescue 8 vehicle. It is located at Melton Station, which is at 57 South Lafayette Street.
