Mobile Fire-Rescue Department units were dispatched at about 11:20 p.m. for a report of a residential fire in the 800 block of South Washington Avenue in Mobile, Alabama, Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
Personnel arrived on scene in about 3 minutes to find heavy smoke and flames visible from the front side of a single-story, wood frame residence.
Crews established a water supply and began an interior fire attack after knocking down flames at the front of the house. They made entry into the house and worked inside, where they found heavy fire that had burned through the ceiling. Fire had already spread into the attic and large flames were burning through the roof. Conditions worsened and crews were pulled out for safety reasons.
Firefighters also protected the next door home to the north, which fire had damaged. After making progress from the outside, crews were able to re-enter the structure to further extinguish the flames.
Primary and secondary searches for victims inside were all clear. No one was injured in the incident, which remains under investigation at this time.
As of 1:23 a.m. Thursday, crews were still on scene, extinguishing hot spots.
