Safety Program Announcement

Feb 4th, 2014

February 4, 2014 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2014-04) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org SAFETY PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT Beginning today, Tuesday, February 4, Mobile Fire-Rescue will begin a new fire safety/prevention initiative. After a fire occurs in a neighborhood, especially a fatal fire, firefighters will return to the neighborhood within 24-48 hours and go door to door to answer questions and hand out safety brochures and safety checklists. The program, titled “Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Neighborhood Fire Station”, is a fire safety/prevention program designed to provide the citizens of Mobile with informational tools and resources to help them identify, and hopefully eliminate, some common hazards that contribute to fire and other types of home accidents. This public safety program takes a proactive, rather than reactive, approach to fire and life safety and allows the citizens of Mobile to experience and interact with their fire department in a positive way, as we not only provide our citizens with a home fire and safety checklist and an informational safety brochure, but most importantly, take the first step in ensuring their safety and well being. ###
