MOBILE, Ala. - At approximately 14:12 hours, Mobile Fire-Rescue Department companies were dispatched to 1300 Rainbow Drive West for reports of flames inside of the residential property. Upon arrival on scene, fire personnel advised that the home was "fully-involved," with plumes of smoke flowing from the single-story home.
A single occupant had already evacuated the structure and was attempting to extinguish grass fires near the home, as MFRD arrived on scene. The resident advised that he had attempted to extinguish flames inside of the home with the use of a fire extinguisher before, ultimately, exiting the structure and calling for emergency assistance.
Heavy flames were discovered in the attic. Fire suppression teams entered the home and began their initial attack.
The resident informed that no other occupants were inside of the home during the incident. Search & Rescue personnel confirmed an "all clear" of the interior of the home.
All signs of fire were successfully extinguished after an approximately 25-minute fight. Ladder truck crews were able to successfully ventilate vast amounts of smoke and toxic gases by cutting an approximately 4 ft.-by- 4 ft. hole in the roof.
After a detailed investigation, MFRD Investigators determined that the cause of the incident was accidental. There have been no estimated amounts of property damage provided at this time.
