At approximately 9:48 hours, Mobile Fire-Rescue Department crews were dispatched to Point Road for reports of a residence on fire in the area. Upon arrival on scene (9:56), fire personnel discovered a single-story residence with heavy smoke present.
All occupants safely evacuated the structure prior to MFRD arrival.
Fire scene operations were immediately established, as suppression teams made entry into the home. Large amounts of dark, grey smoke was present in the attic and billowing from the roof.
Search and rescue teams quickly swept through the residence to confirm that no occupants were trapped inside.
Additional units (2 engine companies) were requested for personnel assistance (10:43).
After approximately 35 minutes, all signs of flames were confirmed extinguished. Crews performed horizontal and vertical ventilation maneuvers, allowing heated smoke and toxic gases to escape the home.
Fire Investigators reviewed the scene and determined that the incident started from natural causes, stemming from a lightning strike.
