November Firefighter of the Month

Nov 30th, 2005

November 30, 2005 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2005-47) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-5806/Fax: (251) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org NOVEMBER FIREFIGHTER OF THE MONTH Firemedic/Driver Jack Busby has been selected as the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department's Firefighter of Month for November. Busby was selected because of his many accomplishments especially in the last few months. Busby took on the added responsibility of assisting with the new defibrillator program assisting with any problems with the new equipment that may arise. This additional responsibility is most burdensome yet he has taken it in stride and continues to astound other personnel with his work ethic. Busby was also the driving force behind the new Intraosseous (IO) device that was approved by the State Medical Emergency Care Committee (SMECC) committee. He did all his research independently and the State of Alabama did not only accept his packet but several other departments have requested copies of his application and work. Afterwards he developed the IO protocols that are currently used by the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department. As if that weren't enough, Busby has been an ambassador for the department by recently assisting in running the EMS (Emergency Medical Services) Operations in the New Orleans area. He volunteered for this assignment and performed it very well. Busby is one of the hardest working and most dedicated employees of the department and is very deserving of this recognition. He was honored by the Pleasant Valley Opportunity Club at a breakfast at the Tiny Diny restaurant on Wednesday, November 30. ###
