WORKER FALLS 12 FEET INSIDE SHIP
A contract employee working at Benders Shipyard # 9, located on the Cochran Causeway, fell approximately 12 feet inside the hold of the ship. The call was received on Monday, September 11, 2000 at approximately 1:30 p.m. When Mobile Firefighters and members of the Mobile Fire-Rescue High Angel Confined Space Rescue Team (H.A.R.T.) arrived they found the unidentified 31 year old male approximately 35-40 feet in the hold of the ship "Sea Venture". H.A.R.T members and Firemedics, using ropes and a basket designed for patient removal secured the patient and lifted him to the deck above, where Firemedics transported him to Springhill Memorial Hospital for further treatment. It appears he had a possible dislocated or broken hip and bumps and bruises. Engines 21, 8, truck 4, 17, rescue 7 and District 1 Chief John Young responded. H.A.R.T. is made up of specially trained firefighters from Engine 8 and Truck 17 housed at Melton Fire Station located at 57 South Lafayette Street.
