VACANT HOUSE DESTROYED BY FIRE
Firefighters from Mobile Fire-Rescue responded to a vacant house a fire located at 300 North Ann Street at Adams Street this morning, Friday, January 19, 2001. The call was received from a neighbor at approximately 6:52 a.m. and first units arrived at approximately 6:57 a.m. and reported heavy fire and smoke coming from the one story, wood frame structure. According to the owner, Oliver Ramsey, the structure had been vacant for approximately two months. Ramsey told Mobile Fire Investigators that he had checked on the house approximately two weeks earlier and it appeared someone had been staying in the structure. The fire appears to have originated in the bedroom off the kitchen and spread throughout the structure causing total damage. The fire appears to have been intentionally set and Investigators feel that vagrants most likely were involved based on information obtained. No injuries were reported. Engines 3, 8, 14, truck 4, rescue 14 and District 1 Chief Mike Farver responded.
