Two Promoted to Assistant Fire Marshal

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-5806/Fax: (251) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org TWO PROMOTED TO ASSISTANT FIRE MARSHAL Fire Chief Stephen Dean promoted Fire Investigators Sam Stephens and Doug Cranford to the position of Assistant Fire Marshal today, Friday, May 26, 2006. Stephens, 59, has been with the department for approximately 28 years and has served as a fire investigator in the Bureau of Fire Prevention for approximately 12 years. Stephens went through the Mobile Police Academy and has been certified as a Police Officer for approximately 10 years. Stephens has a Bachelors Degree from Auburn University. Cranford, 36, has been with the department for approximately 10 years and has served as a fire investigator in the Bureau for approximately 4 years. Cranford also graduated from the Mobile Police Academy and has been a certified Police Officer for approximately 4 years. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Alabama. Stephens will be in charge of the Code Enforcement Section of the Bureau of Fire Prevention which oversees, building plans review and approval, fire inspections in area businesses, permitting and fire code compliance and enforcement. Cranford will be in charge of the Investigation Section of the Bureau, which oversees the investigation of both accidental and suspicious fires in the City of Mobile and it's jurisdiction. ###
