MOBILE, Ala. – At approximately 18:49 hours, Mobile Fire-Rescue Department crews were dispatched to Azalea Point Apartments at 651 Azalea Road. Callers and witnesses reported smoke and visible in an apartment unit on the 2nd floor.
Upon arrival on scene, fire personnel confirmed a 2nd-floor apartment unit engulfed in flames, with adjacent apartments presenting flames, as well. A 2nd-alarm response was requested at 18:54 hours, ensuring additional units would arrive to assist on scene.
Fire scene operations were established, as fire suppression units hauled charged hose lines, forcing their way to the upstairs units. Search and rescue teams swept through adjacent units to confirm no civilian victims were trapped inside.
An unknown-aged male was discovered to have suffered smoke inhalation prior to MFRD arrival. The patient was treated on scene and transported to a local hospital for definitive care.
After approximately 15 minutes, crews confirmed that all signs of flames were successfully extinguished. Two upstairs apartment units suffered significant flame damage, while approximately 5 others sustained minimal-to-moderate smoke and water damage.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
