On January 23, 2023, at approximately 6:09 PM, Mobile Fire-Rescue Department companies (E3, E8, E2, E11, E14, R3, R8, T4, T17, FB2, D1, D3) were dispatched to Blakeley Boatworks (401 Cochrane Causeway) for reports of a marine vessel on fire in dry dock.
Upon arrival on scene (6:14 PM), fire personnel confirmed an approximately 110 x 35 foot, 3-level vessel engulfed in flames. Incident Command immediately (6:15 PM) requested a 2nd-alarm response (E21, (T24, R23, REHAB1) to assist at the scene.
A rapid sweep of the vessel revealed that no civilians were on board during the incident. After a brief, offensive attack, interior teams safely evacuated the vessel, allowing fire suppression teams to establish a defensive extinguishing strategy.
Crews continued to battle flames for more than an hour. Incident Command reported the fire “under control” at approximately 7:27 PM, as teams continued to search the vessel for hot spots or fire extension.
There were no injuries reported from the scene. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
