TWENTY-SEVEN NEW FIREFIGHTERS TO GRADUATE
Twenty-seven firefighters, twenty-four from Mobile Fire-Rescue, two from Atmore Fire Department and one from Chickasaw Fire Department, will graduate and receive their badges and helmets on Thursday, March 15, 2007 after completing approximately Nineteen weeks of training at the department’s training academy. Mayor Sam Jones is scheduled to address the graduating class at the ceremony which begins at 3:00 p.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church located at 6101Grelot Road.
In addition to physical requirements and demands, each recruit spent approximately 640 hours, meeting the academic requirements set by the department and the Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission. These hours consisted of classroom studies as well as hands on training in 21 subject areas. All recruits also passed and received their State and National Registry license for Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B).
While attending the Mobile Fire-Rescue Training Academy, each recruit met the requirements set by the Alabama Fire College in obtaining their Firefighter I and II certification, as well as Intro to Technical Rescue, Haz-Mat Tech and Fire Inspector I certifications.
