Jun 10th, 2000

NEWS RELEASE June 10, 2000 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH100032) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (334) 208-5806/Fax: (334) 208-5813 SPRINKLER SYSTEM EXTINGUISHES FIRE AT MONTLIMAR PLACE Mobile Firefighters responded to a fire in Suite 1040 of the Montlimar Place Office Building located at 1110 Montlimar Drive Saturday, June 10, 2000. Someone notified a Maintenance employee for the building of smoke and water in the building. The Maintenance employee discovered the sprinkler system had extinguished a fire in Suite 1040 on the 10th floor, occupied by Portamedic and cut the sprinkler off and called the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department at approximately 11:23 a.m. The fire appears to have originated on a desk in the office of Portamedic and was confined to the desk when a single sprinkler head above extinguished the small fire. The fire appears to have been caused by a candle apparently left burning that caught some combustibles on fire that were also on the desk. There was water damage to the 10th floor as well as 9th and some on the 8th floors. No injuries were reported and no damage estimate is available. Engines 9, 19, 23, truck 5, rescue 6 and District 4 Chief Mike Brunson responded. Engines 15 and 22 responded later to assist with getting water out. ###
