Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-5806/Fax: (251) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org SEPTEMBER FIREFIGHTER OF THE MONTH Hurricane Katrina's devastating destruction to the Gulf Coast left residences badly damaged and without power. On September 7, 2005 a full response was called to 2088 Venetia Drive on Dog River. A Boathouse was fully involved with fire upon arrival of Mobile Fire-Rescue units. During the operation Captain Wallace risked his life according to witnesses. In order to save a nearby residence from certain ignition from extension of the burned walkway/pier, Wallace took nozzle/hose in hand and walked into the waist to chest deep water of the river and began to combat the fire to save the nearby residence. His actions were deemed as truly exemplifying the meaning of professionalism. Because of his actions Captain Steve C. Wallace has been selected as the Firefighter of the Month for September. He was honored by the Pleasant Valley Opportunity Club at the Tiny Diny on Wednesday, October 13, 2005. ###
