The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department (MFRD) announces Fire Service Captain Scott D. Carmichael as the August 2021 Firefighter of the Month. Captain Carmichael began his career with MFRD in September of 2007 as a Firefighter, promoting to Driver in September of 2011 and most recently promoting to Captain in May of 2019.
Captain Carmichael is the lead instructor for all technical rescue classes in the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department. Although he is assigned to field operations, when needed,
Captain Carmichael volunteers to be the lead instructor for Surface Water, Trench, Rope, and Confined Space Rescue classes for members of the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department and Alabama Task Force One (ALTF-1).
Captain Carmichael is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Alabama Fire College in Surface Water Rescue. He also serves as the Coordinator for ALTF-1 and recently took responsibility for the State of Alabama grants designated to replace technical rescue equipment.
Captain Carmichael’s work ethic and eagerness to advance the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department and the fire service exemplify the characteristics we strive to achieve as professional firefighters. Captain Carmichael is a selfless professional dedicated to the operational readiness of the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department.
