Papa John's Pizza Damaged by Fire

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org PAPA JOHNS PIZZA DAMAGED BY FIRE Two Mobile Police Officers responding to an animal nuisance call at approximately 6:34 a.m. Thursday, April 22 saw what appeared to be smoke coming from the rear of Papa John’s Pizza located at 5546 Old Shell Road. The officers pulled into the driveway to investigate and discovered a small fire at the rear progressing rapidly. When firefighters arrived they reported heavy fire at the rear of the business. Firefighters knocked the fire down and made entry into the building and found no extension to the interior but did find heavy smoke and a small amount of fire extension into the attic of the single story, wood frame strip shopping center. There was no fire extension into adjacent businesses. No injuries were reported and damage is estimated at $50 thousand. The cause of the fire, which started at the rear of the building, is under investigation however Fire Investigators do have a person they would like to talk to. His first name is believed to be Jacob and he is described as being a white male, 5’8”, about 170 lbs, unshaven with shoulder length brown hair. Anyone with information pertaining to this fire is asked to call the Arson Hotline at 208-MFRD or the Bureau of Fire Prevention at 208-7484. Engines 1, 15, 22, 29, truck 5, rescue 18 and District Chief Robert Thornton responded to the fire. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is investigating. ###
