Open House at Renovated Fire Station

Oct 21st, 2010

October 21, 2010 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2010-39) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org OPEN HOUSE AT RENOVATED FIRE STATION There will be an open house at the recently completed renovated Springhill Fire Station #18, located at 700 Museum Drive, on Saturday, October 23 from 10:00 a.m. until noon. The station has been closed for several months under going major renovations. The open house is all about welcoming the firefighters back to the neighborhood. Residents have been anxiously waiting the re-opening of their fire station. There will be food, tours of the station, blood pressure checks and activities for the children. District 7 Council Representative Gina Gregory said, “I’m happy to see firefighters back at the station because I know how important it is for faster response times to have firefighters ready to roll who are close by, not across town. The renovations were a long time coming and have made a huge difference for the men and women who call that station home.” Station 18 was erected in 1957 and this is the first major renovation since its opening. The station houses a fire engine, rescue truck and is the District 3 Chief headquarters. The City of Mobile has been doing renovations at a majority of its fire stations, doing two at a time. Some of the stations are having just roof repairs/replacements and others need more extension work or complete renovations. Currently Stations 20 on D.I.P at Stewart Road and Station 15 on Moffat Road at Western Drive are under going renovations and/or repairs. ###
