Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org MOBILE HOME FIRE, BARNES ROAD Firefighters responded to a mobile home fire this evening, February 7, at 6461 Barnes Road. The call was received at approximately 5:43 p.m. Firefighters reported heavy smoke coming from one end of the mobile home. Once firefighters made entry they discovered heavy fire coming from a bedroom. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. All occupants had escaped without apparent injury. The fire appears to have started in a bedroom and was caused by a portable space heater sitting too close to combustibles in the room, a common occurrence with portable space heater usage. No injuries were reported. Damage is estimated at approximately $4 thousand. Engines 6, 7, 19; truck 24; rescue 7; District Chief Johnny Morris and Theodore Volunteer Fire Department responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention investigated the cause. ###
