MOBILE FIREFIGHTERS STARTING 2007 MDA “FILL-THE-BOOT” CAMPAIGN
Beginning May 4, 2007, Mobile Fire-Rescue Firefighters will be in front of five area Wal-Mart stores from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on set days to once again participate in the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (MDA) “Fill-the-Boot” fund-raiser.
In 2006 during the Fill-the-Boot program, Mobile Firefighters raised $37,512.00 for the South Alabama District of MDA. The department earned the Golden Ax Award, which is presented by MDA, for raising the largest amount of money by firefighters in the State of Alabama in 2006. The award was presented to the department during a Mobile City Council meeting February 27, 2007.
The proceeds are used locally to provide services for individuals with neuromuscular diseases, including MDA clinics, support groups, and assistance with the purchase of medical equipment and annual repairs. The Fill-the-Boot efforts help fund vital research to find cures for over 43 neuromuscular diseases, and help support the local MDA’s Summer Camp ASCCA in Jackson Gap, AL. MDA receives no government funding and charges no fees to those they serve or their families.
The schedule for the “Fill-the-Boot” campaign is as follows:
Friday, May 4 & Saturday, May 5
