Mobile Fire-Rescue to Host Rail Safety Training

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org MOBILE FIRE-RESCUE TO HOST RAIL SAFETY TRAINING Mobile Fire-Rescue Departments Training Division will host a series of Rail Safety classes presented by Operation Lifesaver August 25-27. There will be two classes a day from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The class, designed for emergency responders will provide participants with the necessary tools to respond effectively and safely to an incident involving rail equipment, on or near railroad rights-of-way. The classes will take place at the departments training academy located at 860 Owens Street. Some of the objectives covered in the course include: Railroad related factors that affect a safe response, response agency-railroad communications and terminology, on-scene dangers and safety procedures, rail equipment ID, critical components and emergency shut-offs, how to STOP a train and understanding wheel reports, train lists and lading papers. Railroad incidents present a unique and often dangerous situation for responders. This course will provide crucial information that can help handle and mitigate situations with improved safety and effectiveness. ###
