January 21, 2009 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2009-05) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org MFRD INVESTIGATING INTENTIONALLY SET FIRE Investigators with Mobile Fire-Rescue Department are investigating a fire in a one-story, vacant structure that appears to have been deliberately set Tuesday evening, January 20. The structure is located at 903 Delaware Street near downtown Mobile. The fire was reported by a neighbor at approximately 10:30 p.m. and firefighters arrived at approximately 10:34 p.m. reporting smoke and flames showing from the rear of the structure. Firefighters found a moderate amount of fire in the interior of the house, which appeared to be under renovation, with a small amount of extension into the attic above but were able to quickly extinguish the fire. Investigators found evidence that the fire may have been intentionally set and estimated damage at approximately $8 thousand. Person(s) responsible for the setting of this fire would face charges of Arson 2nd degree because it was a vacant structure at the time of the fire. Anyone with information regarding this fire is asked to call the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Arson Hot Line at 251-208-MFRD. Engines 2, 3, 11, Truck 4, rescue 3 and District Chief Alex Trenier responded. The fire is being investigated by the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department’s Fire Marshal Office. ###
