Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Awarded
Firefighter Assistance Grant
Mobile, AL – On August 31st, the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department was awarded an $815,000 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) for the purchase of 18 new cardiac monitors and 50 automated external defibrillators (AED). The primary goal of the FEMA funded Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
Mobile Fire-Rescue is currently in the process of testing the new monitors and AEDs, while allow MFRD Paramedics to provide necessary feedback on equipment to be used in daily operations. The AFG announcement comes just before the end of the current fiscal year, and Mobile firefighters could not be more overjoyed and grateful for financial assistance. Chief of Staff Jeremy Lami adds, “We are extremely thankful and excited to receive this life-saving equipment that will allow us to better serve the citizens of Mobile.”
