Mobile, AL - Mobile Fire-Rescue Department announces Captain Barry Glisson as the January Firefighter of the Month. Captain Glisson joined MFRD in July of 2004 and promoted to the rank of Captain in 2016. Captain Barry Glisson’s efforts in attaining an improved Insurance Services Office (ISO) score have exceeded the traditional call of duty. He played a vital role on a team responsible for strategic planning and the creation and implementation of said plan to transition MFRD from an ISO class-1 department, after having spent the previous 48 years as a class-3 or -4.
The number of hours exhausted in such an undertaking are immeasurable. On numerous occasions, Captain Glisson devoted personal time away from family in order to ensure the Department’s success on the ISO project.
In addition to all of Captain Glisson’s dedication to ISO improvements, he tackled the large task of streamlining and condensing Mobile Fire-Rescue’s vast Policies and Procedures. Many years had passed since the Policies & Procedures were adequately updated, and Captain Glisson prioritized and reorganized the Department manual for consistency and simplicity.
The Firefighter of the Month Award not only represents Captain Glisson’s work accomplishments, but it also represents who he is – a servant who is committed to the safety of our citizens, our communities, and our fire department. Words and accolades cannot adequately represent the appreciation of the City of Mobile or the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department. On behalf of all the citizens and with our sincere thanks, we are pleased to award and recognize Captain Barry Glisson as Firefighter of the Month for January 2019.
