Life Saving Awards:
Paramedic G.A. Rutland & Paramedic W.A. Roberts
While cleaning the rescue truck at Springhill Medical Center on November 4, Paramedic Firefighter Tony Rutland heard a female call for help from the hospital parking lot. He went to investigate and found a male unresponsive on the sidewalk. The gentleman was in full cardiac arrest. Firefighter Rutland called to his partner Paramedic Firefighter Jerome Roberts to obtain medical equipment from the ambulance. The gentleman was placed on the Lucas-3 device and defibulated once.
Springhill staff was notified, and a stretcher was brought out to secure the patient. The gentleman was taken inside of the hospital for further resuscitation efforts and had a viable pulse when the rescue unit left Springhill. The incident shows the dedication, experience, training, and willingness of both paramedic firefighters to go above and beyond the call of service. They are truly an asset to the City of Mobile and the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department.
