Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org LARGE HOUSE DESTROYED BY FIRE Fire destroyed a large house located at 1689 Staples Road, Tuesday morning, October 12. The call was received at approximately 8:21 a.m. and when firefighters arrived they reported the more than 4,500 sq. ft structure was fully involved with fire. The rear of the residence had already caved in prior to firefighters arriving. The house has been mostly vacant for a number of years, the owner told Fire Investigators she stays in the house once every couple of weeks just to check on it but otherwise it stays vacant. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Over 95 percent of the house was destroyed by the fire causing an estimated $100 thousand in damage. ###
