MOBILE, Ala. – At approximately 18:26 hours, Mobile Fire-Rescue Department (MFRD) companies were dispatched to the Knollwood Apartments (1651 Knollwood Drive) for reports of a kitchen fire. Upon arrival on scene, crews confirmed heavy smoke flowing from a 2nd-story apartment.
Occupants were safely evacuating as MFRD crews prepared for fire suppression operations. Upon entering the home, personnel noted heavy flames in the kitchen area. The fire was quickly and safely extinguished without any injuries during the incident.
Firefighters were able to contain flames to a single apartment unit, while additional units suffered minor smoke damage. Fire Investigators have determined that the accidental fire was caused by a pot left unattended, cooking on the stove.
