Intentional Fire Causes Damage to Mobile Housing Board Property

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (334) 208-5806/Fax: (334) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@ci.mobile.al.us INTENTIONAL FIRE CAUSES DAMAGE TO MOBILE HOUSING BOARD PROPERTY Fire Investigators with the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department are in search of clues that may lead them to the person or persons that intentionally set fire to the Rental Office of the Roger Williams Housing Project, located at 362 Simington Drive. The fire was reported by an area resident at approximately 11:52 p.m. Tuesday night, January 2, 2001 and firefighters arrived at approximately 11:57 p.m. and reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the wood-frame, brick exterior structure. The fire appears to have originated in the front window of the Rental Office. Fire damage was confined to the rental office with smoke damage to an adjacent office and hallway and a room at the North end of the hallway. Fire Investigators recovered several "Incendiary Devices" from the scene and will send them to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to be analyzed. The fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported. Damage is estimated at approximately $50 thousand. Engines 14, 8, 3, truck 17, rescue 14 and District 1 Chief Martin Stanley responded.
