May 20, 2005 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2005-23) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-5806/Fax: (251) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org HOUSE FIRE INJURES ONE Mobile firefighters were called to the scene of a house fire located at 2601 Old Dobbin Drive, East, in the Carriage Hills Subdivision in West Mobile, early Friday morning, May 20, 2005. The call was received from neighbors at approximately 1:16 a.m. Firefighters arrived at approximately 1:20 a.m. reporting heavy fire showing from the structure. The occupant believed to be in his 40's was found at the neighbor's house with 2nd and 3rd degree burns over a large portion of his body and multiple deep cuts. Upon arrival both the neighbors and the victim told firefighters that there might still be two more people inside the burning structure. Firefighters made three separate searches both inside and outside the structure but found no one else. The victim was transported to the University of South Alabama Medical Center in critical condition. The fire appears to have originated in the kitchen and was pretty much contained to that area. There was light smoke and heat damage throughout. Damage is estimated at approximately $25 thousand. Neighbors told Mobile Fire Investigators that the victim came to their house calling for help and he was covered from head to toe in blood. The blood and cuts were most likely caused from when the victim escaped from the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time. Engines 6, 19, 22, truck 5, rescue 6 and District 2 Chief Randy Smith responded. ###
