Firefighters Respond To Large Wood Chip Pile Fire

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (334) 208-5806/Fax: (334) 208-5813 FIREFIGHTERS REPSOND TO BURNING PILE OF WOOD CHIPS Firefighters from Mobile Fire-Rescue Department responded to a fire involving a pile of wood chips at International Paper Company, located on Papermill Road, Friday, July 14, 2000. The alarm was received at approximately 7:01 a.m. reporting wood chips on fire in a Tree Debarking Machine. The fire spread to a large pile of wood chips on the ground as well. Members from the Fire Brigade at International Paper were already on the scene applying water to the fire when Mobile Fire-Rescue Units arrived shortly after. The fire was contained quickly but firefighters remained on the scene over 3 hours soaking down the piles to ensure the fire did not rekindle later. No injuries were reported. Engines 21, 14, 3, truck 4, rescue 14 and District 1 Chief John D. Young responded. Engines 2 and 8 were called later to rotate manpower due to heat conditions. ###
