Firefighters Respond to Apartment Fire Second Time

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND TO APARTMENT FIRE A SECOND TIME Mobile firefighters were called to an apartment fire located at 1351 Eagle Drive early Wednesday morning, March 14, 2007, the second time since Saturday morning, March 10, 2007. The call was received at approximately 1:51 a.m. this morning and firefighters arrived shortly after at approximately 1:55 a.m. reporting heavy flames coming from the single story, wood frame apartment building. The fire appears to have originated in the living room of the unoccupied structure and spread throughout the structure causing an estimated $30 thousand in damage. The fire remains under investigation but appears to have been intentionally set. Anyone caught would be charged with Arson 2nd Degree because the building was unoccupied. The fire on Saturday, March 10, 2007 was reported at approximately 5:03 a.m. and firefighters heavy smoke showing from the structure upon arrival. The fire appears to have originated in the bedroom and appears to have been an accidental fire caused by an electrical problem in the apartment. The estimated damage was $6 thousand. No injuries were reported in either fire. Anyone with information is asked to call the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department at 208-7484 or Crime Stoppers at 208-7000. Engines 2, 9, 16, truck 24, rescue 24 and District 1 Chief John Young responded to the fire this morning. The same units and District 1 Chief Frank Byrd responded on Saturday morning. ###
