Firefighters will be presenting an Honorary Firefighter Award to Baker High School student Kyle Rogers, 18 because of the bravery he exhibited on January 31, 2005. Rogers was returning home, sometime after 7:00 a.m., from school because he had gotten mud on his clothes. While in route home he noticed a large amount of smoke ahead of him, so he went to investigate its origin. Upon arrival at 9825 Jeff Hamilton Road he discovered a structure fire and an unknown male, who later was identified as Kenneth D. Johnson, 39, with 2nd and 3rd degree burns over 50% of his body, standing by the roadside seeking help. Rogers got Johnson in his vehicle, called 911 to report the incident and sped off to Providence Hospital to get Johnson the help he needed. The award reads "This award in recognition of his brave actions on January 31, 2005 by assisting a fire victim, by transporting him to a local hospital after victim suffered burns in a house fire. On behalf of all the members of the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department we are pleased to present this Honorary Firefighter Award." ###
