Fire Heavily Damages House and Garage Apartment

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FIRE HEAVILY DAMAGES HOUSE AND GARAGE APARTMENT A fire at 5121 Yorkwood Road, South, did heavy damage to a one-story, wood frame house and a two-story concrete block and wood frame garage apartment adjacent to the house, early Wednesday morning, May 2, 2007. The call was received at approximately 6:36 a.m. and when firefighters arrived on the scene they reported heavy fire showing from both structures. The occupant of the house, Robert Long, told Mobile Fire Investigators that he went to the store and upon his return saw fire coming from the garage apartment/carport area and his family was running out of the house. The fire appears to have originated under the carport and spread to the garage apartment and the house. The fire caused an estimated $50 thousand in damage and remains under investigation. No injuries were reported. Engines 6, 7, 19, truck 5, rescue 6 and District 2 Chief Johnny Morris responded to the fire. ###
