Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FIRE DESTROYS ABANDONED HOUSE An apparent abandoned single story structure was destroyed by fire this morning, Friday, November 20. The fire, located at 6840 Cary Hamilton Road, was called in by a neighbor at approximately 10:34 a.m. who reported smoke and flames visible. Firefighters arrived at approximately 10:42 a.m. reporting the house fully involved with fire. Although the house still had power connected to it from all appearances it was abandoned and unoccupied. The fire appears to have started in a front bedroom and spread throughout the structure. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage is estimated at approximately $50 thousand leaving it a total loss. No injuries were reported. Engines 7, 19, 20, truck 24, rescue 7 and District Chief Johnny Morris responded to the call. ###
