FIRE DAMAGES VACANT CLUB HOUSE ROAD STRUCTURE
A fire in a vacant house located at 3419 Clubhouse Road caused an estimated $30 thousand in damage on Tuesday evening shortly before midnight. The call from a next door neighbor was received at approximately 11:50 p.m. reporting smoke and flames visible from the rear of the single story structure. The neighbor also advised the structure was vacant and didn’t appear to be anyone inside.
Firefighters arrived reporting heavy fire showing from the rear of the vacant and unsecured structure. Firefighters made entry extinguished the fire and searched for any possible occupants, none were found.
The fire appears to have originated in one of the bedrooms. Fire investigators discovered what appeared to be heavy vagrant activity inside the structure and suspect they may have started a fire to keep warm during the colder weather. The cause remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.
Engines 2, 9, 16, truck 24, rescue 24 and District 1 Chief Frank Byrd responded to the call. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is conducting the investigation.
